Spotlight on CTE Sports Medicine Course

The Claremont Unified School District is proud to feature its Career and Technical Education (CTE) program, specifically the Sports Medicine pathway offered at Claremont High School. This program equips students with critical medical skills and prepares them for various roles in the healthcare industry, from nursing to sports therapy.

Jonathan Snapp, a Baldy View ROP Teacher at Claremont High School, detailed the program's structure. "Our program starts with Sports Medicine 1, introducing students to basic medical skills and knowledge. Students who advance to Sports Medicine 2 become pathway completers, earning a graduation stole and a certificate of completion," explained Snapp. This final course is not just about textbook learning; it's a hands-on dive into real-world medical skills.

Snapp highlighted a unique feature of the program, the Anatomage machine, which revolutionizes learning: "It's a state-of-the-art digital dissection table that allows students to explore human anatomy in 3D. This tool brings textbook images to life, offering students a detailed view of bodily systems, significantly enhancing their learning experience."

12th grader Alaina Ulgado, is planning to pursue nursing, shared her positive experiences. "This course helped confirm my desire to become a nurse. From learning basic anatomy to performing complex splints, every lesson builds our confidence and skills."

Lillie Ciscek, another CHS senior, expressed how the course has prepared her for a nursing career. "The practical skills we learn, like taping and injury prevention, are directly applicable in the field. It's about applying what we learn in real-life scenarios, which is essential for anyone going into healthcare," she stated.

The CTE Sports Medicine course at Claremont High is more than just an educational pathway; it's a launchpad into the healthcare profession. Our students, like Alaina and Lillie, not only gain practical skills and certifications in CPR and AED but also develop a strong academic foundation that benefits them in higher education and beyond. Their achievements are a testament to the program's success and our commitment to their futures.

As the program continues to grow, it stands as a testament to Claremont Unified's commitment to preparing students for successful futures in diverse and demanding fields. This CTE course is not just shaping future healthcare workers; it's inspiring them to achieve excellence in whatever career they choose to pursue.

Inside the Classroom: Introduction to Engineering and Design at CHS

At Claremont High School, the Introduction to Engineering and Design class, facilitated by the Baldy View ROP, is sculpting the next generation of engineers and designers. Under the guidance of teacher Luis Pedraza, students delve into the complexities of the design process through hands-on projects that encourage innovative thinking and practical skills. From designing a cupcake transporter to reimagining sustainable products, the class offers a dynamic learning environment that prepares students for advanced studies and careers in various engineering fields. The program is expanding into a comprehensive pathway that includes subsequent courses in engineering and architecture, fostering a deeper understanding and skill set essential for success in the demanding fields of engineering and design development.

Behind the Curtains: Claremont High's Stage Tech Class

At Claremont High School, the Stage Tech Class, guided by teacher Kim Negrete, offers students an immersive introduction to the world of theatrical production. This course provides training in stage management, prop construction, lighting, and the setup and operation of sound systems, preparing students for careers in theater, entertainment, and managerial arts.

Throughout the school year, students in the Stage Tech Class apply their skills in real-world settings, contributing to the success of the school's numerous theater productions. Mohammed Mangrio, the Theatre Director at Claremont High, collaborates closely with these students, relying on their expertise to bring each play to life. "Without the Stage Tech class, the high level of technical theater that we produce wouldn't be possible," Mangrio explained, emphasizing these students' essential role. From building intricate sets to managing sophisticated lighting and sound designs, the Stage Tech students ensure every production will enhance the storytelling on stage.

This hands-on experience enhances their technical skills and fosters a strong sense of community and teamwork among the students, making the Stage Tech Class a cornerstone of Claremont High's performing arts success.
