Weather Considerations and Preparations

August 19, 2023

Dear Parents and Guardians:

I hope this message finds you enjoying the final moments of our summer break. As we eagerly anticipate the beginning of a new school year, I want to share important updates regarding upcoming school-related activities in light of the weather forecast.

With the National Weather Service forecasting potential heavy rains and winds from a tropical storm this weekend and possibly extending into early next week, I want to reassure you that we are closely monitoring the situation. Our back-to-school events, including the seventh grade materials pick-up at El Roble and CHS registration, are scheduled to proceed as planned. However, we remain flexible and prepared to adjust as necessary in collaboration with city and county partners. We will monitor the storm closely over the weekend and send an updated message to all CUSD families on Sunday evening.

In anticipation of potential adverse weather conditions, the City is offering free sandbags for those who wish to prepare. These can be picked up from select Claremont Fire Stations listed below. If you are planning on picking up sandbags, please remember to bring a shovel. Visit the City website and City social media accounts for additional information about the sandbags and any storm updates.

Thank you for your flexibility and continued support.

Sincerely,

Dr. Jim Elsasser
