Through the years, the Sycamore Governance Council, Sycamore staff and families have created a number of lasting traditions that characterize both its community learning center philosophy and its child-centered focus. Among these are (blue color indicates link):
Publishing House-- Students publish books using all stages of the writing process, concluding in a hard bound copy, both for the school library and the student.
International Day--This annual celebration of our multicultural population is presented by parents and community members and coordinated by PFA. All students, with passports in hand, "travel" to self-selected "countries."
Ability Awareness Day-This annual celebration of our varried abilities is presented by community members, parents and staff. All students interact with people with varried abilities in two sessions and complete activities in one session that simulate loss of one of their abilities.
After School Enrichment Program--Fee-based classes that meet a variety of student interests are offered in an after school program.
Sycamore Faire--A yearly student created and run fair earns money for the classrooms.
Student Art Gallery--Student paintings, drawings and sculpture are on display in the media center's foyer.
Family Science Fair--Student projects are reviewed by local professors and college students. Specific written comments help students consider next steps.
Family Dance--A theme-based family social gathering enhances community spirit.
Parent/Community Tours--Bimonthly staff-led tours acquaint parents and community members with Sycamore's educational program.
Across Generations Day--Senior members of our community are invited to share life experiences and to participate in classroom activities. The day concludes with lunch in the courtyard.
Assemblies--Sycamore Governance Council sponsored assemblies support the schoolwide emphases of multiculturalism, fine arts, drama, science and music.
Outdoor Science School--Sixth grade students participate in a week-long environmental experience in the local mountains. Students earn money for outdoor science by having bake sales, sponsoring baby-sitting nights and hosting a family pasta dinner/talent show.

Curriculum Nights - Occuring a few times yearly, each night focuses on a theme (math, reading, science) and activities that families can do together to inhanse studnent learning.
