Myspace.com
www.myspace.com has become a growing threat to our students . From advocating violence to harassment of students, Myspace.com usage is on the rise. Many parents are unaware of the dangers associated with this site, and many parents are unaware that their students have a page on this site as well as post information on other people's sites. Claremont High School recommends that each parent discuss Myspace.com usage with their children and set up responsible rules for using Myspace.com, or not using it at all. Furthermore, we recommend that each parent sign up on Myspace.com and visit the pages to find out what their children may be doing. Signing up is free and relatively easy. Not all content or pages on Myspace.com are negative. Some pages are used for friendly communications. However, without proper parent monitoring, it is very easy for our kids to get involved with content that is inappropriate or even dangerous.
The following facts about Myspace.com should be noted by each parent:
Sexual predators use my Myspace.com to find victims.
Personal and private information about kids and their families may be posted by the user.
Many fights on campus trace back to information posted and/or learned on myspace.com.
Myspace.com has been used to harass and pick on kids.
Myspace.com has inappropriate content including information regarding sex, violence, drugs, alcohol, racism, and rumors.
