Claremont Unified School District Computing Resources
Statement of User Responsibilities
The computer resources of Claremont High School (CHS) and the Claremont
Unified School District (CUSD) must be used in a manner that is consistent
with the district's educational purposes, environment and the mission of the
Claremont Unified School District. These resources are primarily provided
for the academic and research computing needs of the students, faculty and
staff of CUSD. Access to these facilities to those outside the CUSD
community is limited, and is subject to policies governing such use.
All users of computing resources are expected to act in a spirit of
mutual respect and cooperation, while adhering to the regulations for
their use as set forth in this document.
The high school reserves the right to monitor, under appropriate
conditions, all data contained in the system to protect the integrity
of the system and to insure compliance with the policies, rules and
regulations governing the use of its computer systems. Furthermore, the
Claremont Unified School District reserves the right to refuse computing
services at any time.
YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES
As a user of Claremont Unified School District's computer resources:
- You are required to have a valid, authorized account to access any central computer systems, and you may use only those computer resources that you are specifically authorized to use. You may use your account only in accordance with its authorized purposes.
- Computing is free to all students, faculty and staff in the Claremont High School community, and all users are expected to have their own account where appropriate. As such, at no time should you tell anyone your password, allow anyone to use your account, or should you ever make use of another person's account.
- You are responsible for safeguarding your computer account. You are expected to take all necessary precautions to protect access to your account by periodically changing your password, and not giving it out
- You may not intentionally circumvent system protection facilities or engage in activities that could be construed as such.
- You may not knowingly use any means to produce system failure, degraded performance, or proliferate computer viruses.
- You may not engage in unauthorized duplication, installation, alteration or destruction of data, programs, or software. You may not transmit or disclose data, programs, or software belonging to others and may not copy material, including manuals, protected by copyright.
- You may not engage in abusive or improper use of computer resources. This includes, but is not limited to, misuse of system/operator privileges, tampering with equipment, unauthorized attempts at repairing equipment, and unauthorized removal of equipment components.
- You may not use computer resources for private purposes, including, but not limited to, the use of computer resources for profitmaking or illegal purposes.
- You must adhere to policies regarding the imposition of a time limit on access to all equipment including modems, limits on allotted disk space on shared resources, and relinquish access to others with business of a higher priority. Instructional and research computing, including assigned work, research projects and other Claremont High School course-related activities have priority over other work. Game-playing is not considered a valid use of the computer when others are waiting to make use of the computing resources.
- You may not use computer resources to engage in abuse of other users. Such abuse includes the sending of abusive or obscene messages within Claremont or beyond via network facilities.
PENALTIES
Any user who is found to be in violation of these rules may be subject
to the following:
- Suspension and/or termination of computer use privileges.
- Suspension and/or expulsion from attendance at Claremont Unified School District schools. .
- Referral to civil law enforcement authorities for criminal prosecution.
- Other legal action, including action to recover civil damages and penalties.
I recognize the importance of adhering to the Statement of User Responsibilities and other policies and rules governing computing use at CHS, and I recognize the attendant penalties if I disregard my responsibilities.
