Foothill Blvd. AKA Historic Route 66

Heading west we are now traveling down historic Route 66 which cuts through the heart of Claremont. Historic Route 66 also known as Foothill Blvd. runs from the Chicago, Illinois to Santa Monica, CA and is one of the largest streets passing through our community. When asking for directions you can use these other major streets as reference: running east - west, Baseline, Arrow Hwy. and I-10 freeway, running north - south: Town Ave, Mountain Ave. Indian Hill Blvd. and Claremont Blvd.

As we near the corner of Indian Hill Blvd. and Foothill Blvd. we find ourselves at the Claremont Inn and Old School house shopping Complex.

Welcome to one of Claremont's landmarks, The Claremont Inn Complex. The Inn is connected to what was once Claremont High School and is now know as the Old School House. This shopping area houses Don Salsa restaurant serving Mexican food in indoor and outdoor settings. Other stores in the complex are Crystal Cave, Cactus Glassworks and the Comic Bookie. Also rooted here is the Candlelight Pavillion which has nightly dinner shows featuring such musicals as Fiddler on the Roof and Evita.

Claremont has many other shopping districts. Here is a list of a few:

• Claremont Auto Center - South of I-10 at Indian Hill Blvd.
• Claremont Center Drive - South of I-10 at Indian Hill Blvd.
• Vanderbilt Square - 900 block of west Foothill Blvd.
• College Center - Northwest corner of Foothill Blvd. and Claremont Blvd.
• Foothill Blvd. Corridor - Foothill Blvd. from Mountain Ave. to Regis Ave.
• Foothill Business Center - Foothill Blvd. between College Ave. & Indian hill Blvd.
• Old School House/ Claremont Inn Complex - Northwest corner of Foothill Blvd. and Indian Hill Blvd., to Colby Cir.
• Harvard Square - Southwest corner of Harvard Ave. and Bonita Ave.
• North Hills Square - Northeast Corner of Foothill Blvd. and Town Ave.
• Pepper Tree Square - Southeast corner of Arrow Hwy. and Indian Hill Blvd.
• Stater Bros. Center - 1000 block of west Foothill Blvd.
• The Village - the commercial "village" area is bordered by College Ave. on the west and Indian hill Blvd. on the east, between first St. and Fourth St.

There is also a farmers' market and art fair every Sunday in the parking lot of the Old School House.
