Claremont High School

Grade 9 - 12

Home of the Claremont Wolf Pack!

Claremont High was originally established on Foothill Blvd. When the community began to grow a larger High School was needed. Claremont High School is now located on Indian Hill Blvd. just above the site of the old high school. The old school is no w know as the "The Old School House" and is now filled with many small shops. We will be visiting the old School house shortly.

Claremont High School is arranged into Quads, the 800 (senior quad) , 700 (junior quad) , 600(sophomore quad), 500(art quad), 400 (freshmen quad), and 100 (the performing arts twin buildings) quads. Classes run September through June with breaks in t he winter and spring.

A typical day may run as follows; Alarm sound 6:00 o'clock am. Roll over go back to sleep. 6:30 alarm sounds again. You stare blankly at it as if to say "I think I'm supposed to do something....." You reluctantly roll from bed and dress. Picked up by C arpool at 7:25 arrive at School around 7:35. Fight your way through parking lot and go to your first class. 7:40 is the warning bell, then 7:45 final bell, you make you way through four classes. Then everyone breaks for lunch. Claremont is an open campus so some people join the mad rush for the cars, others walk down to the Old School House area and the remaining students stay on campus. Lunch time is when many of the CHS clubs meet. Claremont is thought to have the most student groups of any of the hig h schools in the surrounding cities.

Clubs range from national organizations to gathering of people for share an interest. Here are a few examples: Interact, CSF(Cslifornia Scholastic Federation), SADD(Students Against Drunk Driving), Young Republicans, Thespians, Environmental club, R ed Cross, Amnesty International., backpacking, sailing, fishing, ski and AFS. After lunch you have to struggle through two more classes. At this point the classrooms can become unbearably hot during the autumn and spring months. Classes end at 2:35. At this point most students join the mad dash to the parking lot and lockers then make their way home. A large number of students will remain on campus for everything from track practice and hanging lights in the theater for the up coming play "Guys and Do lls", to being an after school chemistry lab aissitant, to just dropping by your favorite teacher to discuss the meaning of existentialism.

Claremont High School has many other groups besides clubs. We have three choirs. Our theater groups put on at least two major musicals in addition to several smaller plays each school year. There are also three bands, jazz, concert and marching/pep plus an orchestra. Sports are also popular, from football and cross country to wrestling and water polo. Claremont has a competitive team in almost very sport.
