Mathematics Club of Claremont High

\Math`e*mat"ics\, n. That science, or class of sciences, which treats of the exact relations existing between quantities or magnitudes, and of the methods by which, in accordance with these relations, quantities sought are deducible from other quantities known or supposed; the science of spatial and quantitative relations.

Now if your eyes were good enough to read the definition, you can devise up the conclusion that mathematics is the foundation and basis for every science existent. Basically without mathematics, our common everyday uses and ways of living will be surmounted back to hunting wild animals to eat with a weird, sharp-stone.

Given the major importance of mathematics in the upcoming new century; coupling with the reason that a whole range of new fields of sciences are emerging, math is now more important than ever. Math is and always be the foundation, and much like a building, one with a strong one will generally adapt and learn things in a more efficient and clean manner.

So, Math Club at CHS is devoted to strengthen that base, and at the same time, make your mind work, have fun, and to explore math in general. Math Club is open to any type of person that is interested; it offers a diverse community of students with different levels of expertise in various sects of math. In turn we can all learn from each other, and together, we may be able to win some competitions while we are at it.

During normal meeting times, our members congregate and solve and discuss any type of mathematical problem a student is having in a class, a competition, or just a arbitrary one found somewhere else. Generally, all you'll hear as you step into our meeting room is silence - we think about these problems, and later on bring these problems into a discussion group to scrutinize over answers. In doing so, we enhance our logistic ability, reading ability, comprehension and application ability - and obviously our mathematical talent. Not to mention our communication and interaction abilities involving math, and other stray subjects. Math club is a great way to expand a student's mathematical horizons.

One partition of the math club is a devoted group of individuals that physically go to a certain area in the state and compete in real time. Some of these competitions include AME, Interstate AME, Math related competitions in the area - and also in school competitions that include math Olympia, math League, and Pomona Talent Search of Mathematics, etc... This takes out-of-club time and on most occasions out of school time too. For more info, see the competitions section.
