Condit Elementary School

Achievement Snapshot
J
ayson is currently a fourth grade student who enrolled at Condit as a second grader. His language arts skills were very low; he struggled with reading and writing. Math skills were marginal.

Last year, Jayson's third grade teacher made certain that he received as much personalized instruction and as many interventions as she and the school had available. She individualized his instruction and utilized many of the most current and effective instructional strategies as trained during district Professional Development Days. Jayson benefited from regular Writer's Workshops in which his teacher conferenced with him one-on-one to extend his ideas, enrich his vocabulary, improve his grammar, and add complexity to his sentence structure. He had many experiences with math manipulatives, especially Base Ten Blocks, to improve his number sense and problem solving. He learned to be accountable for completing class work and homework assignments. His teacher reviewed his work for errors so she knew where he needed additional assistance.

Jayson responded well to several of Condit's regular education intervention programs. He was tested and selected to participate in Condit's Reading Intervention Program where he received small group (two students) reading instruction provided by a trained paraprofessional twice per week focusing on decoding and comprehension skills. He was also enrolled in Condit's afterschool tutoring program where he participated in an intensive remedial reading program. Summer school reinforced the skills that were developed during the year, including the intensive reading program.

The results of the above regular education interventions show a student who is generally working within grade level standards. With additional interventions and enrichments this year, it is anticipated that Jayson will demonstrate strong proficiency in language arts and mathematics by the end of the fourth grade. end
