These principles, along with their supporting elements, provide the framework of the Claremont Unified School District's commitment to excellence. Board, staff, students and parents will work together and be accountable for implementing the Principles of Excellence. Each of these Principles need to fit together into an overall contract which represents the responsibilities for each of the stakeholders in the education of Claremont students. Each school site and department will use this framework to identify specific and tangible standards of performance.
- Schools will provide rigorous academic challenges and rigorous expectations of student behavior.
- Provide challenging curriculum
- Improve quality of instruction
- Challenge all students to meet or exceed established standards of academic performance (e.g., meet grade level expectations, course outcomes, and/or program outcomes)
- Challenge all students to meet or exceed established standards of citizenship
- Involve parents as active participants in the educational process

- Students will be expected to come to school prepared to learn and actively participate in the learning process.
- Meet or exceed the established academic and citizenship standards
- Respect themselves and the rights of others
- Attend class on time and complete assignments
- Be responsible for independent thinking and lifelong learning

- Parents are responsible for providing a healthy environment of mutual respect in which their student(s) are taught to value education and constructively participate in the learning process. As active partners with the schools in the educational process, parents need to:
- Assure that their student(s) are in school regularly and on time
- Communicate effectively with schools
- Assist their student(s) in reaching academic, social, and citizenship goals
