August 2008

The Claremont Unified School District Governance Team is pleased to present the Governance Standards for our district. The Governance Team is comprised of all five members of the Board of Education and the superintendent. Members of the Board of Education seek and value the opinions and concerns of members of the community. These documents provide a clear and unambiguous agreement regarding the role of the superintendent and individual board members. It is our belief that when each person in the Governance Team fills their proper role and carries out the proper responsibilities, the likelihood of achieving our district’s goals increases significantly. These Governance Standards have been unanimously agreed to by all members of the School Board and represent our attempt to publicly acknowledge our role in the education of all students in Claremont. There are several documents contained within the Governance Standards:

  • Statement of Beliefs—this document provides the core values and beliefs by which we intend to guide our decisions as a Governance Team
  • Board Member Guiding Principles—this document represents the protocols by which we operate as individual Board Members and as the Board as a whole.
  • Goals for 2008/09—these represent the immediate goals and actions we intend for the district to take during the 2008/09 school year
  • Duties of the Board—this is a sample of the duties of the Board of Education
  • Duties of the Superintendent—this is a sample of the duties of the superintendent
  • Board By-Laws—these are some of the Board of Education By-Laws that guide our actions.

It is intended that these Governance Standards provide a helpful understanding of how we work together as a Governance Team to provide the best educational programs for our students in the Claremont Unified School District.

Thank you.

Jeanne Hamilton, Ph.D.

President
