Goal #1:

Quality teaching and learning for the whole child

All Claremont Unified School District schools should strive to emphasize higher-order thinking skills appropriate to students’ developmental stages in conjunction with a coordinated and viable implementation of state-mandated standards-based curricula. The Board will review evidence of student achievement.

Work completed and/or maintained:
  • Developed and began implementation of Strategic Plan at San Antonio High School
  • Developed and implemented English Language Learner programs
Action to be taken:
2-year Focus 2009/10-2010/11
  • Develop and begin implementation of strategic plans for comprehensive reform at Claremont High School, and El Roble Intermediate School. Include counseling and Career Technical Education grades 7-12
  • Continue to focus on strategies to close the achievement gap
  • Continue to develop foreign language instructional programs K-12
  • Continue to develop a Professional Development Plan for all staff
  • Develop and implement a “Scorecard” for students including P.E. and extracurricular activities
  • Develop comprehensive “Focus on Instruction” strategy at schools to meet or exceed accountability measures established by No Child Left Behind mandates
  • Research Virtual Learning
Goal #2:

Quality facilities that meet educational and community needs

Develop a comprehensive long-range facilities plan that meets the educational needs of our schools, provides a well-maintained physical environment that promotes learning, implements sustainability practices when and where possible, and allows for sound fiscal management and meets the needs of our community.

Work completed and/or maintained:
  • Board review of school configuration
  • Developed long range facilities plan
  • Partnership with the City regarding Girls Softball field use
Action to be taken:
2-year Focus 2009/10-2010/11
  • Research Bond feasibility and timeline
  • Continue to explore ways to fund facilities projects district wide
Goal #3:

Curriculum and services that support students coming to school ready to learn and which promote healthy choices and lifestyles

Provide an educational program that promotes healthy choices and lifestyles and which supports students coming to school ready to learn.

Work completed and/or maintained:
  • Pre-K programs developed, identified, supported and maintained
  • Partnered with the City of Claremont in facilitating the implementation of the recommendations of the Youth and Family Master Plan
  • Implemented the administrative regulations of the Health and Wellness policy
  • Reviewed and standardized SST at each school site, allowing for flexibility in implementation
  • Continue to support Claremont After-School Programs (CLASP), Uncommon Good, programs supported by the Claremont Educational Foundation and other community-based student programs
  • Continue to implement Response to Intervention (RtI) at each school site
Action to be taken:
2-year Focus 2009/10-2010/11
  • Pursue education for students and parents regarding the health and legal implications of drug and alcohol use
  • Develop and implement “Parent Academy”
Goal #4:

Communicate with and engage our community

Refine and enhance our process that informs the public of the value and accomplishments of public education and that engage the community in a dialogue about policies that will shape the future of the district.

Work completed and/or maintained:
  • Maintain up-to-date online information from the District and school sites
  • Maintain partnership with Claremont Educational Foundation
  • Maintain partnership with Parent Faculty Association
Action to be taken:
2-year Focus 2009/10-2010/11
  • Develop and implement communication plan that focuses on teaching and learning as well as facilities. Identify community groups not heard from, develop community focus groups, and develop a method or strategy to disseminate information to the community.
  • Continue to strengthen partnerships with the Claremont Colleges, Citrus Community College, the University of La Verne, Cal Poly, Pomona and other college partners, including establishment of District/Colleges liaison(s)
  • Develop plan to identify methods and strategies to address legislative issues and advocate for K-12 education at the state level
