Goal #1:

Quality teaching and learning for the whole child

All Claremont Unified School District schools should strive to emphasize higher-order thinking skills appropriate to students' developmental stages in conjunction with a coordinated and viable implementation of state-mandated standards-based curricula. Work completed:

  • Plan developed to implement District Advisory Committee recommendations, as appropriate
  • Development of Essential Standards Committees
Action to be taken:
  • Continue to focus on strategies to close the achievement gap
  • Develop and begin implementation of strategic plans for comprehensive reform at San Antonio High School and Claremont High School
  • Develop and implement Career Technical Education programs
  • Develop foreign language instructional programs K-12 grades
  • Develop and implement English Language Learner programs
  • Develop articulated counseling and guidance programs
  • Develop performing and visual arts curriculum K-12 grades

Goal #2:

Quality facilities that meet educational and community needs

Develop a comprehensive long-range facilities plan that meets the educational needs of our schools, provides a well-maintained physical environment that promotes learning, allows for sound fiscal management and meets the needs of our community. Work completed:

Work completed:
  • Bond/modernization projects
  • Deferred maintenance projects
  • Complete the work of the Asset Advisory Committee
  • Development of the recommendation for the use of the La Puerta campus
Action to be taken:
  • Board review of school configuration
  • Complete seismic study
  • Develop long range facilities plan
  • Review reuse plan for existing district facilities
  • Create facility master plan for district

Goal #3:

Curriculum and services that support students coming to school ready to learn and which promote healthy choices and lifestyles

Provide an educational program that promotes healthy choices and lifestyles and which supports students coming to school ready to learn. Work completed:

Work completed:
  • Board policy revisions related to Health and Wellness
  • Partner with the City of Claremont in revising the Youth Master Plan
  • Identify, begin to implement and evaluate physical fitness, health and wellness programs for all students
Action to be taken:
  • Partner with the City of Claremont in developing services that support students coming to school ready to learn
  • Support Claremont After-School Programs (CLASP), Uncommon Good, programs supported by the Claremont Educational Foundation and other community-based student programs
  • Implement a code of conduct for responsible citizenship for all students
  • Counseling for students and families - K-6 counseling in partnership with local colleges; 7-12 counseling interventions identified through strategic plan
  • Pre-K programs developed, identified, supported and maintained
  • Partner with the City of Claremont in facilitating the implementation of the recommendations of the Youth and Family Master Plan
  • Implement the administrative regulations of the Health and Wellness policy

Goal #4:

Communicate with and engage our community

Refine and enhance our process that informs the public of the value and accomplishments of public education and that engage the community in a dialogue about policies that will shape the future of the district.

Work completed:
  • Board members began serving as liaison to each school in the district
  • Community budget workshops held in 2006 and 2007
  • CEF Board attends CUSD Board mid-year retreat
Action to be taken:
  • Continue to develop partnership with Claremont Educational Foundation
  • Continue to develop partnership with Parent Faculty Association
  • Begin planning for the development of a district strategic planning process
  • Continue to develop and strengthen partnerships with the Claremont Colleges, Citrus Community College, the University of La Verne, Cal Poly, Pomona and other college partners
  • Develop and implement communication plan that focuses on teaching and learning as well as facilities
  • Maintain up-to-date online information from the district and school sites
